Honey Harbour Cottage
A Job With A View
This 1960's cottage had endured 11 different additions throughout its years. While not all the additions were bad, some caused problems with the original structure. from a rotting kitchen subfloor to a sinking main support beam, this cottage needed some serious TLC.
1 of 3 North/South Walls
Framing
We built the asymmetrical roof line in sections in order to mimic the roof line very accurately from one side to the next.
Fir Main Beam Supporting 24' Long Rafters
FRAMING
Once the walls are up its time for the exposed main support beam and time to start hanging rafters.
New Meets Old.
It rained 24 out of 30 days which meant that when it was dry, we worked extra hard.
Layered Roof Lines
Roofing
After sealing the roof we could rest assured that the rain wouldn't be a factor any more. This was a great day.
Old Married With New
Interior
Once we were covered up, we could open up the old cottage. The room in the background used to be the kitchen, but due to a DIY error the floor had rotted out. we replaced the floor and relocated the kitchen to a location which made much more sense.
New Custom Cabinetry Marries With Antique Pieces Creating An Open Concept Through To The Dining Area.
It was our idea to move the rotted out kitchen at the back of the house to an unused dining room with a view of the lake. Once a place to spend limited time in, not the family can cook, have drinks, and eat dinner all while being close enough to talk and all still have a view of the nature that surrounds.
Before
Kitchen
This space was once used as a dining room. Having already a dining area, and a sun room both with tables to eat at, this was a prime space to become a kitchen. We were glad that the client was receptive to the idea that changed the very way they entertain and interact as a family.
After
Kitchen
The clients wanted to maintain the antique feel of their kitchen so we used two antiques already being used and adapted our design to these pieces. we modernized the space slightly with modern colours, tile, in floor heating, and a pickled tongue and groove pine ceiling.

The Finale was to demo and rebuild a dated carpeted bathroom. We opened up a small wall and laced the inside with finished consistent with the design of the cottage. Stepped rustic wood tiles, a skylight, painted and varnished wooden floors, and a repurposed antique vanity.
